Our Story

Hoops 4 Hawaii (H4H) hosts an annual 24-hour basketball marathon that was inspired by a similar event hosted in Boston. The founding team of H4H, consisting of Roger Dequina, Jay Grasso, and Jordan Kauwe, participated in the basketball marathon in Boston in 2022 and was greatly inspired by the event.

That event raised funds to support a hospital in Cambodia. The experience left a lasting impression on the founding team, and they decided to do something similar back home in Hawaii.

On February 7, 2023, at a cafe in Honolulu, Oʻahu, Hoops 4 Hawaii was born. The founding team sat down to discuss the idea of hosting a basketball marathon to raise funds for those in need in Hawaii.

Our Vision

To build a team in the community that will participate in a fun and inspiring 24-hour basketball marathon. The annual event will raise money for a specific benevolent need in the State of Hawaii. We will partner with a sister organization that shares a similar vision of helping the sick, the poor, and those in need. To God be the Glory.

Matthew 25:40
The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Our Mission

Hoops 4 Hawaii will raise $40,000 in 2024. Part of the funds will go to assisting with the travel and lodging expenses of sick children who need medical attention in Oahu. This will be done in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Hawaii. The other portion of the money raised will be given to Palama Settlement to continue their community programs for keiki and kupuna.

HELPING CHILDREN STAY CLOSE TO FAMILY AND THE CARE THEY NEED

Being alone in the hospital can be a traumatic experience, especially for children. And more than ever before, children in need of emergency treatment are being brought to Honolulu from all over Hawaii and other Pacific Islands for expert medical care.

For over three decades, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Hawaii has offered a loving home-away-from-home to families needing to be near their seriously ill or injured children while they’re being treated at Honolulu area hospitals.
